Prince Adam from Beauty and the Beast

Daily writing prompt
If you could be a character from a book or film, who would you be? Why?

Characters from books and films tend to have all kinds of problems and issues. Even characters with astounding qualities seem to go through unimaginable hardships, loss and pain.

I think that the Beast (Adam) from Beauty and the Beast, is a brilliant character to be – if life were to be played out like the movie.

I’m probably quite biased here as Beauty and the Beast was one of those unforgettable childhood movies which has probably influenced my view of romance, relationships, and women considerably. Nevertheless, the Beast is my choice.

He is also surrounded by his palace servants who all seem to be extremely loyal to him and see through to his inner beauty. They undoubtedly have their motives for pushing both Belle and the Beast together, but also seem to be well-intentioned. The beast is thus, lucky that he is free of negative influences in his life.

Belle as the Ideal

Nobody is perfect, but Belle is probably the most wonderful of the Disney Princesses. She is intelligent, has a love of reading, and is endlessly compassionate.

Belle is the one who stirs the Beast to develop a more caring heart and empathy, and eventually transform back into a human. Although I emphasise on Money Meets Life, that people can change themselves and develop for the better, there is something beautiful about a woman with outstanding character acting as a catalyst for change.

The way that she sacrifices her freedom for her father reveals the strength of her heart and her bravery. Also, she can see through the brutish nature of Gaston, despite the whole town being taken in by his good looks and natural charisma.

Furthermore, the way she falls for the beast despite his threatening appearance says a lot about her ability to see through to his inner beauty.

She also wishes to see the world, as she finds herself confined to live in a small, provincial town, which makes her an exciting prospect for any man who longs for a little adventure.

Without Belle

If Belle were not present in the beast’s life, however, there are probably few characters who would be worse to be.

He would probably have ended up alone, bitter, resentful, and unhappy.

His ugliness was brought about as a result of a curse, and without Belle there to confess her love to him, he would have had to live on forever in this monstrous form.

Conclusion

The character I’d most like to be is probably the beast, but only with Belle in his life.

He would likely have to live out his days in the most tragic way possible if not for her fateful appearance in his life, but in the tale, he ends up with the ideal life companion and changed for the better.
